In this guide we have rounded up the 10 best things to do in Bedugul, with tips on when to visit, a sample 2-day itinerary, and where to stay right on the shores of Lake Beratan.

1. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple
Bedugul’s most famous landmark. This water temple stands on the edge of Lake Beratan and is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the Balinese Hindu goddess of water, lakes and rivers. When the lake is high and the mist rolls in, the shrines appear to float on the water — one of the most iconic sights in Bali.
Since 1 July 2026, entrance fees are IDR 100,000 (adult) and IDR 75,000 (child) for international visitors, and IDR 50,000 (adult) and IDR 25,000 (child) for Indonesian visitors. Prices can change, so check again before you go.
Tip: arrive early in the morning, before the tour groups, for a quieter visit and the best light for photos. Dress modestly — this is an active place of worship.
2. Lake Beratan

Lake Beratan is the second-largest lake in Bali and an important water source for the rice fields below. Besides enjoying the view from the shore, you can take a speedboat or traditional boat, paddle a canoe, or try stand up paddle in the early morning when the water is still and glassy.
Staying by the lake makes it even easier. At Pondanu Cabins by the Lake, guests can enjoy canoeing, stand up paddle, fun boat rides and cycling right from the property, then take a slow walk along the Promenade Deck on the water’s edge.
3. Bali Botanic Garden (Kebun Raya Bedugul)
Covering around 157 hectares in Candikuning, close to Lake Beratan, the botanic garden is home to wild orchids, begonias, carnivorous plants and hundreds of bamboo species. Its wide lawns and shady trees make it perfect for a family picnic, a morning walk, or simply breathing in the cool mountain air.
4. Bali Treetop Adventure Park
Set inside the botanic garden, this adventure park has rope courses, suspension bridges and zip lines strung between tall trees. Circuits come in different difficulty levels, so both kids and adults can join in the fun.
5. Candikuning Market
This traditional market on Bedugul’s main road sells fresh fruit and vegetables from local farms, flowers, plants and souvenirs. It is a great place to pick up strawberries, sweet corn or local fruit while soaking up the atmosphere of a mountain market. Bargaining is expected.
6. Handara Gate
This split Balinese gate at the entrance to Handara Golf & Resort is one of the most photographed spots on Instagram, framed by green hills and mist. Come early to avoid the queue; a small fee is usually charged for photos.
7. Lake Buyan & Lake Tamblingan
West of Lake Beratan lie the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan, surrounded by dense forest and far quieter than the main tourist spots. On the road towards Munduk, stop at the Wanagiri viewpoint to see both lakes at once from above. At Lake Tamblingan you can also hire a traditional wooden canoe with a local paddler.
8. Waterfalls around Munduk & Wanagiri
The Munduk and Wanagiri area is home to several beautiful waterfalls, such as Munduk Waterfall and Banyumala Twin Waterfall. Trails usually involve steps and jungle paths, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a change of clothes.
9. Strawberry Picking
Bedugul is Bali’s strawberry country. Several farms along the main road let you pick your own strawberries and pay by weight — a big hit with kids. Many also sell fresh juice, jam and other strawberry treats.
10. Local Food in Bedugul

Cool weather calls for warm food. Try lake fish, grilled sweet corn, or a bowl of bakso (meatball soup) at the warungs around Candikuning. For a meal with an uninterrupted lake view, Lido Deck at Pondanu Cabins serves Indonesian, Balinese and international dishes from breakfast to dinner.
Best Time to Visit Bedugul
- Dry season (roughly April–October): clearer skies and easier roads for exploring.
- Early morning: the lake is calmest and views are clearest before the midday mist.
- Bring a jacket: it gets chilly, especially in the morning and evening — even in the dry season.
- Avoid long weekends if you prefer quieter visits to the popular spots.
